When it is cold, there is a loud squeak when I move, it sounds like it is right in front of me or behind the steering. When it is not cold, it only happens after I hit 40 mph. I replaced my power steering fluid about 10 miles ago.
The speedometer cable is a woven brass wire cable with a stamped square drive on each end that rides inside a steel band wound into a closed coil and sealed in plastic with screw on ends.
You generally unscrew the terminus of the cable from the back of the speedometer and you can at that time pull out the cable inside the outer housing and pour graphite powder into the housing. If the cable is frayed and sticking it needs to be replaced. When I ran a garage a few decades ago you just replaced the inner cable (steel being harder than brass didn't wear as much).
As to the length of the cable I do not know. I depended upon the knowledge of the parts counterman at NAPA for that information. The length is determined by the transmission as the speedometer cable attached at different points on the tranny and on either side which affected the overall length.
