I am trying to replace the carpet and seatbelts in my 70 Impala Coupe. What is the trick to removing the rear seat?

Removing the seat is a breeze.

1) Wearing gloves (becuase there could be sharp edges or other nasty things down in your seat) slide your hands down into the back edge of your seat where the seat back meets the bottom seat cushion
2) Pull UP on the bottom seat cushion from the back edge and repeat along the seat from one side of the car to the other until the whole thing is up and out from under the seat back.
3) slide the set cushion you've lifted forward toward the front seat, releasing it from the hooks located under the front most edge of the lower cushion.
4) lift the seat cushion up and out of the car. May need to play with it s little to get it to "release" depending on what condition the hooks are in...
7) find the two bolts and two metal tabs that secure the seat back to the floor of the car. CAREFULLY straighten the metal tabs to allow the seat brack to slide over them without interference, and remove the bolts.
8) CAREFULLY lift the bottom edge of the seat back up and away from the floor of the car, clearing the metel tabs I just spoke of.
9) Once free of the tabs, slide the seat back upwards so that the top of the seat moves in an upward direction from the package shelf - NOT out and away from it. This should release the seat back from the retaining hooks along the top of the seat back. May require a little bit of playing around to get it to release.
10) Lift the seat back up and out of the car.

NOTE!!!!!!!!! Old seat material is brittle, and can fall apart literally in your hands. Old seams can split, old material can just fall apart from handling. It is possible to damage old seat covers doing this, so be careful!
