Hi There,

Looking to do a tuneup on the car in the next few weeks, just the usual, plugs, wires, etc etc.

I'm curious what the specs for the dwell and timing are for this motor? Anyone know what an ideal advance would be?

I don't yet have a service manual (in the works of obtaining one) so I don't have specs on this exact motor just yet.

Anything else I should be looking at, or recommendations? This will be the first major "once-over" since I acquired the car last fall...

Thanks.

Rob,
This following info. is from memory (long term o.k., ask me what I did yesterday???) It does matter if trans is manual or auto for idle speed. I believe for auto it is 600 rpm in drive, manual was usually, about 100rpm more and if equipped with a/c I think it was to be on. Spark plug gap-.035,points gap-.019, timing dwell-28-32 degrees. Most SB and BB were about the same just different plugs, very slight changes in timing. Headers will also affect timing, I will advance the timing to the point the engine sounds rough and then back it off. Shut it off and try to start it, if it sounds hard to start, back it off a little more, repeat procedure again. After some drive time check again and listen for "piston knock" when driving.Don't forget distributor wrench on test drives!!!

Thanks....I Think!!!! Some times I "hit" on all Eight...other times like a 100,000 mi Vega motor.
