Hello,

I've used the search function with no luck, so I thought I'd post here. I would like to narrow my stock rear end 1" each side, The housing is not a problem, but, are the axles splines long enough to machine an inch off without having to replace or respline them. The car is a cruiser and I want to be able to install rear skirts with the wheels I'm using. Any information / help would be appreciated:confused:

You will have to respline the axles (I would recommend just buying new aftermarket 28 spline axles) as they will not last with an inch cut off. As far as the fender skirts go they should fit now as Olds and Pontiac had them on the same body (as far as that goes I have seen Chevy's with them on a stock rear end).

You will need a fixture (you can buy them from Moser or Currie) to shorten the rear end your self (they are just a set of bushings on a long steel rod) as the tube ends have to be held square with the end of the tubes when you reweld the axles onto the car. It is easier to do this out of the car but it is not required.
