I'm thinking about switching the transmission in my 66 Impala. It's currently a PowerGlide, and I'm thinking about going to a TH350. If I were to do so, what would need to be changed or altered? Would it fit?

Think real hard before using that 350: At today's gas prices you will probably be a lot happier with one of the later overdrive models. I am sorry that I ever put a dime into rebuilding my TH400 a couple of years ago. Besides the OD gear they all have lower first gear ratios too. Most people use the 700R4 but the 200R4 can also be used.

The main reason I'm thinking about putting in the 350 is because I already have access to one, and it won't cost me anything. I don't have a lot of money to put into this, so I figured it'd be decent, at least for now. I mainly want to get it on the road, and then put money into it as I go.

The TH350 is a direct bolt in for the PowerGlide. It is the same size and uses the same mounts, and drive shaft. The linkage will work but you can not manually access low gear without changing over to the TH350 linkage. You will need to use the torque converter from the TH350 and while you have it out be sure to change the front seal at least.

make sure your converter will bolt up to your flywheel before you put that trans in..mine didn't

It's a very easy installation. I too was a bit scared of going this route but it wasnt hard at all.
