I found a decent 69 custom cpe body to drop my BBC /T400 into and curious. 66SS427 06-30-2008, 11:33 AM Answered one queston myself. Only one head was open chambered - alum square port, standard was still cast iron oval closed chamber heads. Still not sure about the water pump. 396427BISCAYNE 06-30-2008, 01:12 PM mike, '69 was the 1st year for the long water pump, big and small blocks. :beers: 66SS427 06-30-2008, 02:22 PM Figures  I bought an alum HV short pump, chrome pulleys and matching chrome alt brackets for my motor. :( I still have the long pump stock stuff though the pump should be replaced. Big Dave 06-30-2008, 10:52 PM Short pump will work if you have everything (everything includes pulleys and all brackets for the accessories). The accessories swapped sides when they changed from short to long so wires and things like A/C hoses may be a problem swapping over to a short pump. The mixed heads will cause problems with differences in compression. A matched set of something is better than what you have. Post the casting numbers of the iron head to learn which one you have. As far as the rectangular port aluminum head it is one of three different castings as well. So post those numbers as well and we can tell you were to look for a mate. Big Dave 66SS427 07-01-2008, 11:53 AM I have all the brackets in chrome except the short pwr steering stuff for a short pump and all of the long pump stuff. Also, I have a pr of 049 head's for it now,I messed up and put it wrong. One head used in 1969 had open chambers, the rest were closed chambers. is what I meant sorry. but want to go to a small chamber head like a 215 to bump up the compression on a more or less warmed slighly over stock 460 BBC. here is the combo- 1973 454 2bolt .030 w main studs Felporo gaskets Steel .010/.010 7416 crank tufttrided w chamfered oil holes windage tray Clevite 77 bearings KB 202-030 Hypertecs .030, 8.2 comp.( I am locked in financially so a piston change is out of the question) Speedpro Plasmamoly rings 3/8" "Thumb" rods ARP 3/8 rod bolts Clevite 77 bearings blueprinted Melling stock oil pump w welded PU whole assembly custom balanced (bottom end is overkill, but work and parts were started B4 a change in plan) 1973 "049" cyl heads (118cc???) w basic three angle valve job, PC seals + port matched to Felpro gasket, .010 clean up shave. Flamethrower nickle plated coil Taylor SpiroPro 8MM red Ign. wires Weiand Excellerator single plane (pre Team G X style intake, GREAT street intake from my experiance) 1" spacer If I need/want it. 750 Edelbrock (I know, but I cannot afford an 850 Holley at the moment) Holley "Blue" fuel pump Holley 4-7# regulator HV Alum short water pump Chrome pulleys, engine coil ,accelerator brackets, timing cover, VC's ,PolyUre. front mounts etc... Hedman 3/4" full length street headers Flowmaster 50's w full length 3" exaust T400 w shift kit,Hays SFI external balance flexplate, 1800 -2000 stall converter, deep pan, external cooler, PolyUre. rear mount For a big car (3740#) I think this is close to right. Improvements? oh yah ,There are several areas that could be bumped up for higher HP/Power sure ,but as of right now this is a mild street motor that will never even see a drag strip except from a parking lot. Get gas anywhere, start everytime and pull my 3000# boat w ease W/O heating up, PLUS have some cruise/stop light fun in a neat older car. Plenty of time to change more later if I so choose if I do the bottom end right. 427SS65 07-02-2008, 12:55 AM Long! 66SS427 07-02-2008, 03:12 AM The post or the car? Both? ;) I REALLY want a 65-68 fastback or cpe. but w a VERY limited budget and MN salt my choices are limited. Considering a 65-6 SS Imp. w BBC weighs in at 3538# and 119" WB to my 3735# w a BBC on the same 119" WB. The 69 only LOOKS longer because of more body over hang F+R actually. Performance given all things mechanicaly equal should be simular. IF I can believe the Desktop Dyno and Comp Cams cam programs (which I do not most of the time), It shows Max HP 422HP @ 5500 RPM and Max torque is 455 @ 4500 Rpm, but that is w lrg tube headers w mufflers and a 850 carb. My goal is 450 HP @ 5500or less RPM ,but with the limited compression + no funny gas its pretty hard to do. |
