Hey all, does anyone have any advise on a easy way to strip the paint of a 1960 Impala steering wheel with out damaging the plastic the wheel is made out of?

I would try walnut shells in a bead blaster cabinet. There is black phenolic plasic beneath the paint so I would start on the easy side on check the finish (I don't think it would be easy to sand smooth again).
