How do you get the new "staples" installed that attach a new set of A frame flaps. My 64 doesn't have the flaps but still has staples on fender where the original flaps were attached.

I want to install new flaps once I drop my newly rebuilt 327 but the "staples" have me wondering how they install.

same problem on my 62, reused the old ones.

Reusing the old ones is the easiest and best bet if they can be opened up without breaking (it is just a 20 gauge piece of sheet metal about a 1/16th of an inch wide that has been exposed to the elements for a long time; though they were zinc clad originally).

What do you use?? A 'mondo' staple gun?? Insert the new or used staples into the existing staple holes then bend them back from under the wheel well??

Sorry to sound so stupid

I thought I had posted this before. I used a Bostich P4 tacker designed for book binding. It shoots a 3/4" long heavy duty staple but it is still hand powered (the factory uses an air powered gun).

Instead of even worrying about mild steel staples that will rust away, why not use stainless steel? You can hand cut with shears a piece of metal and bend it to resemble a staple. Shot of black paint and no one is the wiser.

I have used the stainless strips found on wiper blades. Cut to length, bend and push through.
