Hello Everyone,
Wondering if anyone could direct me to a source to find out how many small block 69 Impalas came with 4 speeds?
Thanks Gutz

Unfortunately, Chevrolet records at the time didn't break things down to that level. (Small Block vs, Big Block w/ 4-Speed). You don't mention what 350 or 4-Speed you have, but any 4-Speed in a `69 full size car is fairly rare with the M20 being the most "common" at 3,448 being installed across the full-size range. This includes not only Impalas, but Bel Aires, Biscaynes, and wagons for each model as well.

The M21 was installed in 969 full-size cars, and the M22 was put in only 77 full-size cars in `69. It may be a safe guess (and only a guess) to assume that most 4-Speeds went into Biscaynes and Bel Aires, and the mojority of those were probably 396 or 427 cars that were ordered for street and/or strip duty. I do know of several `69 Impalas with 4-Speeds, but most of these are legitimate Z24 (SS 427) or 396 cars with the M20.

I know there are `69 Small Block 4-Speed cars out there (yours is one of them), but I don't recall seeing one in recent memory, so I'd say it's a pretty unusual car. Find out what Tranny you have, and you can break it down from there using this information to at least arrive at a rough figure.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the numbers. I have not determined which tranny it is for sure yet. Feels like a close ratio though. Once I get under and check it over better I believe I will get some answers. I just feel that the number of factory produced small blocks with muncie 4speeds and 12 blt posi cars were few. Was hoping it was published somewhere. Thanks again for your reply and help.

Does any one know if there is a kit out there in order to convert from an auto to a 5 speed (Keisler?)?

Yes the procedure is the same with every car. You will have to do some fabrication on the trans tunnel as the tranny is larger and longer than any four speed, requires a different bell housing and rear transmission support, but all of this stuff (or most of it, since I doubt if they have a kit for Impalas just yet) can be purchased. I would shoot for a Chevelle install kit as your most easy to adapt to the B-body.
