Hello,
I'm new to both this forum, and the car restoration hobby. I'm probably what many will consider a, "backyard restorer" My motive for undertaking this seemingly impossible task is purely sentimental. While I am new to the restoration hobby, I am not new to the Impala. I grew up with a '64 2d h/t, 283/PG coupe. This was my first car, and it's now in limbo in my dad's garage for the last 18+ years. It has succumbed to decades of year-round weather and road salt, and although it is not much different now from when we parked it when it became unsafe to drive, it remains the driving force behind my motivation and desire to restore at least one '64 Impala, of the 3 rust buckets I have accumulated thus far. My project is an 1964 SS H/T from Alabama, not devoid of the typical problem areas either. Maybe worse, but it just happened to be more solid, and the most complete, "real" SS I could find, without a motor/tranny, that was within my budget.
I'm no stranger to forums, or the vast amount of information to be gained & shared by their members. I come here looking to gain the much needed experience and help from knowledgeable, people (especially the member who goes by, ChevyDude101 on webshots, who invited me) who share this same motivation and passion as I have. It is bitter-sweet at times, and I need help. I'm not too proud to ask for it. Nor am I too proud to share what I know as well.
So with that said, I look forward to continuing on with my project with your help, and sharing the hi's and low's of what I encounter along the way. You can see my cars, and the trouble they have gotten me into here: http://www.putfile.com/yooper66 the powdered blue hoop-dee (sp???) is the one I'm working on now.
Regards,
