Default 1965 powerglide to th400 swap

Here i go again. This older guy who i deal with had two transmissions for sale,a th350 and a th400 both running condition.Originally i was gonna buy just the 350 but he sold me both for a great deal. All week long i was planning on throwing in the 350 on my next off day and just keep the 400 for future use.But now I had a change of heart because i know i should be running that 400 behind my 454.But anyhoot my 65 doesnt have both sets of holes in the frame like spring built 65's so i gotta make some brackets for the crossmember.I know i gotta shorten the driveshaft and change the yoke, but if theres anything I'm missing please let me know....oh yeah my 400 has a long tail, could that be an issue?Just dont wanna double work myself like i've been doing. Thanks

The TH400 came out with the introduction of the 396 late in the 1965 production run. Your car was built to accept a 409 with a PowerGlide or a four speed Muncie tranny.

It's not to late to build one for your car as Bill Mitchell is casting brand new 409 size bored blocks with four bolt mains and it is stronger than the original truck blocks which are about all that have survived up until today. Edelbrock is also casting new aluminum big valve 409 heads (with matching cast fined valve covers and a two four intake like from the good old days) and a 454 crank in that 409 block yields a nice 468 displacement.

Do you feel tempted? If so think about it for a while before you actually look up the prices for those parts and ruin the enjoyment.

With the price of Gasoline, I'd be seriously thinking about a built 700R4 or 2004R myself.
