Hi,
I have a 66 impala ss with a muncie 4 speed & floor console.I would like to change it from a muncie shifter to a hurst shifter.Does anybody know if the 1964 impala hurst installation kit will work on a 1966 impala?I curious because hurst no longer makes an installation kit for a 66.
Thanks
Unfortunately, the `64 kit will not work on any later full-size applications, and it sounds like you're finding out how hard it is to find a Hurst conversion kit for anything post `65!
I went through the same thing with my `68 a couple of years ago, and talked to a Hurst factory rep who indicated that they stopped making the `65-`69 full-size shifters (and all related linkages and hardware) over 20 years ago because the demand just isn't there.
That's when I found a guy out of Columbus, OH named Pete Serio. Pete's mainly a Pontiac guy, but runs his own vintage Hurst Shifter business. If Hurst ever made it, Pete generally has it, or can get it. He can also make custom shifter parts and linkages based on factory drawings if you just need individual components.
He's a great guy, and has been doing all things Hurst for many years at very reasonable prices (No, I'm not related to him in any way!) You can check out his web site at http://www.precisionpontiac.com/ or give him a call at 614-258-3500.
By the way...don't throw away the original Muncie from the `66. It's worth a mint by itself! Hope this helps.
