Drum to Disc brake conversion 67 Impala

Hi there,

I will be installing a new MBM front disc brake kit including a double booster.
The car now has only drums without a booster.
After reading the story of Land Ark (Good job!) I learned a lot already, but since it's a different kit I'm sure it will be a challenge.

I'll keep you posted and hopefully you are able to answer questions I post next week!

Jake
Also see the Welcome Forum for pictures of my car

Picture of current drum brakes, I sprayed everything with wd40 in preparation for the conversion.

Keep us posted. I am looking at doing the conversion too on my 70 wagon. Though I will most likely take it to my mechanic.

Oh yeah, I am definitely in for this!

Words of advice:
If you have access to a lift, get it - no matter what it takes.
We had to pound the crap out of the spindles to get them off.
Now will be a good time to replace the ball joints, idler arm, and anything else you need.
A good brake line bender will help. I reused the right side line and used couplers to get to the proportioning valve.
Everything/one said to drill a new hole for the pedal lever. I ended up using the same hole the manual brakes went into. Your experience may be different.
Don't get discouraged. You can do it.

Good luck, it's a major project but will be well worth the effort.

I wanna see pictures!

Also, I'll have my car back on Tuesday so if you need me to take any pictures of anything, let me know. I'll be glad to help.

2" drop spindle conversion on 66 Impala

I just finished my installation. All went well, and the brakes are a big improvement. I did have to modify the steering arm to fit the new spindle. I asked CPP about machining them, but dude said most just grind them to remove the 1/8th inch of material required. That is what I did and it worked just fine.

I got the kit that came with the proportioning valve and dual chamber master cylinder. I did have to do two of my own brake lines. Wasn't a huge issue with the 7 buck bender I bought.
