67 396 shroud

I bought a metal 4"shroud to try and get the 396 to runner cooler. If I take off the 2 1//4 aluminum spacer and bolt the fan to the water pump it will end up 1/2 way in the shroud which i`ve read is what is needed for better cooling any advice would be appreciated Thanks Jim

I've heard the same thing.
I think you could even go in further so that only an 1/2"-1" is sticking out.

Big Dave will know for sure. He might even calculate how much different the CFM movement is between those options. :-D Also Dave, can you do that in a chart by RPM. That'd be greeeeaaaat.
