Hi all, this has got me stumped, I am having trouble with my speedo in my 63 impala, it has a th350 in it and the speedo doesn’t go when driving, I have taken off the cable at the trans and spun it with a drill and speedo works, I can also see speedo gear moving in trans when I spin the driveshaft, I have also put the gear strait onto the cable and spun the gear with the drill-speedo works, as soon as I do everything back up together-nothing, please help, I am loosing my mind
Are you certain the gear inside the speedometer is not stripped or rounded out so it won’t turn the speedometer cable which is sort of rectangulared shape on that end?
Yeah, because I have taken the gear and bullet out, set it onto the cable and spun the gear with the drill and the speedo works, I have ordered a new bullet and gear just to make sure
You probably thought of this, but I seem to recall the cable can slide around, even to the extent that the cable gets pushed up into the speedo and does not engage with the gear on the transmission.
More likely it is getting pushed up if the inner cable is not seated in the gear on the transmission end. Been a while since I looked at it, but if you can get the cable started into the gear, it should help.
