Cast Iron Powerglide

Would having a transmission shop rebuild a 62 powerglide be about the same price range of rebuilding a more modern tranny? Thanks.

Should be the same price. same labor and parts involved. You have a second hydraulic pump in the rear of the case, but they don't wear out that frequently.

Unless you are building a white glove restoration I would upgrade to at least a TH350, or better yet a 200R4 transmission. TH350 is a bolt in having only the shift linkage different; while the OD 200R4 requires a modification of the transmission cross-member to bolt up as well as the linkage being different. A 700R4 requires cutting the drive shaft shorter in addition to linkage and tranny mount.

Spline count from a Powerglide would be the same for a TH350 short tail?

Same 27 spline output shaft shared with the aluminum case PowerGlide, TH350, Muncie and Sagnaw 3 speed manulas and the 200R4 and the 700R4. TH400 and 4L80 and the T56 have a 31 spline output shaft.

Nope. T56 has the same 27 spline output shaft. I actually have one in my 96 Impala SS, the stock 27 spline shaft from the 4L60E slides right in. Viper T56 is 30 spline. TH400 is 32 spline... just like the 32 spline 4L80E. Also: Saginaws were 17 spline until the early 60s, then went to 27.
