fuel guage

ok so a while ago you guys helped me diagnose my fuel guage problem. Determined it was a bad sending unit. I got one off ebay that looks to be the same as the ones in all the good impala catalogs (just a little cheaper). My old one was the old soup can style which doesnt appear to be made anymore. Anyway, I replaced it and got it all back together but now it only reads a little less than 3/4 full after ive filled the tank (23-24 gallons). accordingly, it reads empty about 1/4 before i actually am empty. Any ideas??

Wrong resistance! Probably it is the most common 90 Ohm when your car may have used a 30 Ohm; but I'm guessing.

I just bought one for my '70 Chevelle SS from Rock Auto (Spectra Premium for $39). I made sure I did 2 critical tests BEFORE I nstalled it.

1. Electrical Test: Using two alligator clipped test leads... Empty to Full - Full to Empty several times.

2. Float Test: Make sure the float actually FLOATS in a coffee can of water for an hr or so.

Cant be too sure...
