quick fix for a 59 bad temp guage?

my temp guage in my 59 impala is reading all the way hot when the car is actually running very cool....I used a laser temp gun and show great cooling and temps. I have replaced the temp sender and that still did not make a difference. Does anyone have a quick fix for what appears to be a bad guage.....i heard there may be a resistor or something I could put on the sensor wire itself that connects to the sensor in the block? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My guess there is a short in the wiring where the wire lost it's insulation and it is grounding out. The temp sender uses Barium Titanate inside the case that makes it a temperature sensitive variable resister or Thermistor. As it gets hot the current flows more freely to ground and the temp light is turned on.
