Hello

Hello, I am new here, but old to Impalas. I got my 1964 Impala back in 1982, for free from a cousin (it was his wife's grandfathers). It has been sitting around not doing much the last 15 years or so, but it is time to make it earn that space in the garage and get it fixed up and fun to drive again.

Me and my 64, back in the late 80's. We were both in better condition back then.

Current picture is a bit problematic....

First I need to clean the garage up so I can get to the Impala . It is not in great shape, but not as bad as some basket cases that I have seen being restored. I have dents and rust spots to deal with and some interior work to do. Then there is the dream of a 409 under the hood .... ($$$$$$$$$$). The tough nut to crack has been getting the body/paint work done. But I now have the resolve to spend the bucks to get a decent job done and I can tackle the rest as smaller projects.

At least by looking at the six tail lights you can be sure you are going to find an Impala under all that stuff

Freed from the pile of junk in the garage. I pumped some gas into the carburetor, and cranked it up, started up fairly well, if a bit rough. Drove it to a couple of shops to get an estimate on the paint, rust and body work. First shop said 10k or more, second shop said 6k-7k. The first shop had a 65 Impala that had been painted the same color as my Impala. It looked really nice Really whetting my appetite for getting my Impala painted.

The photos make it look better than it is.

Got some mechanical work, cleaning and painting to do here.

One more shot. California sunset and my Impala. Not sure what that moon looking thing is , must be dust on the lens or in the air in front of the camera, picking up the flash. Looks kinda cool, though.

man that picture reminds me of when I was a Marine at 29 Palms with my 69 Camaro RS. (in my profile pics, and more here: www.media-swap.com)

Your Impala looks to be in good shape and it's cool that you were able to drive it to both of those shops. DO NOT be surprised when your final bill ends up being 30%-75% more than the quote......it's common. Make sure you get an itemized list of what they are doing and what parts they are buying.

Nice car, why not just drive and enjoy it. You are going to be way upside down and will never get your money out of it if you put 10 K in a 4 door.

It's more of a family heirloom of sorts. I suppose when I get too old to drive it, it will be handed down to somebody else in the family tree. I don't give any consideration of it's investment potential, as it is not a 'valuable' model. To me the value is in the memories of my first car and such. I do care about the quality of the paint/body work vs the cost and want to be sure I get the right kind of work for what I need.

Love it! I'm a 4 door fan anyways...Whatever you spend will be worth it but, shop around and do what you can yourself.
