New Member 1968 Impala Custom 396

I just purchased a 1968 Impala Custom 396 matching numbers car. It's been in storage for a long time, so it needs brake work and a few other items to get it on the road. I'm not new to the classics, just been a Camaro person all along.

Very nice....does it have the hidden headlights? Hard to tell from that angle. Way cooler than a Camaro...

Yes, it does have the hidden headlights. I know that they aren't correct for the Impala, but the previous owner installed them 30 years ago. I do have the necessary parts to put them back to original at some point if I want to.

What you are saying id you would rather have a plane jane Camaro rather than an RS?. Hidden head lights is an even rarer option on a full size car than it is on the Camaro.

Not at all, I like them on the car. I was just saying that I know that they're not technically correct for the Impala. Based on what I've read, they were only available on the Caprice.

Correct. How they ended up on Impalas is one of the great mysteries of the B-body. Considering it's essentially a facelift for the car and would be quite an undertaking (vacuum canisters, different rad core support, etc.) I can't see very many people doing this themselves, although some surely did.

I think the '68 with the hidden headlights is the absolute coolest looking front end on any car, ever. But I'm also admittedly very biased 😎
