To be perfectly honest with you, the only way you make money in restorations is if you are the guy getting paid by someone else to do the restoration work. Now if your just flipping cars you can make money by finding people selling stuff they don't realize they have. A person would be a fool to pay more for a car that someone else restored to that other persons specifications than they would pay to have a car restored to their own taste and specifications.

The guy restoring a car in his home pole barn does it for the love of keeping his hands busy and the feeling of accomplishment when they finish something with their own hands.

It depends on the car itself and the accomplishment that you are considering accomplishing.

And by salvage are you talking about a totaled car that had the title turned into DMV in that state? If so you have no title and it can not be driven on the road again until recertified as a car with a new remanufactured VIN. As car values climbed a lot of prople used to glue the front half of one wreck to back half of another wreck: but the resale value was really low considering the effort.
