how much quicker will my car go after I switch out the 2.5 something rear gear,to a 3.73?
now this was in my '85,which has just a stock 305,it went 18.007 a few years back, but now its kinda my new toy.
I should know for sure by next saturday.

It will improve your 60 foot times which is were all drag races are won or lost. I would guess that it would knock about 1.6 to 1.8 of a second off your elapsed time; if the motor doesn't fall flat on it's face at the other end (it has a rev limiter built into the distributor, and the 305 was not known for it's deep breathing ability).

Now as long as the stock 305 doesn't grenade at those RPM levels as it was never designed for them!
