65 ss dash pad

I am curious, did '65 ss come standard with a padded dash or was it optional? My car is mostly all original but is from AZ, so I'm guessing it was dry rotted and removed at one time. thanks! Does anyone have any pictures of how they looked installed?

Ive seen SS Impala's both ways, So I would guess it was a option. As a mater of fact I just went an looked at a friends 65 SS tonight and it did not have a padded dash.

I remember from decoding my trim tag years ago that I have the code for padded dash. Non-SS, however.

Two doors, four doors, wagons, and ragtops.

OK that helps, I kind of figured it was optional, but wasn't sure. I will try to do some research on the trim tag and get some answers. Maybe someone else will chime in on whether or not ss cars came standard with them??

I'll check my 1965 dealer/accessory brochures.

Two doors, four doors, wagons, and ragtops.

Cars with padded dashes had 6 holes in the top of the dash to mount the dash pad. If yours doesn't have them then it didn't have a padded dash.

I had one on my '65 SS. It was cracking from when I got it in 1996. I finally had enough of it's ugliness and removed it. I will be filling in the 6 holes when I pull the windshield for a bit of rust repair at it's base very similar to what's seen in the pic above.

Everyone I've seen always looked like it was some kind of afterthought. The corners facing the passengers always turned up. Not sure if it would do anything to save your face in an accident anyways. The dash top painted a nice gloss would look so nice.
