I'm replacing the old door panels in my 1963 Impala and I purchased what is advertised as door watershield. It is a heavy paper that is light brown on one side and a shinier black on the other. My question is, what side of this material should be facing the door itself? And what side should face the new door panel?
The black tared side goes to the inside the door cavity while the craft paper brown side goes behind the cardboard door liner facing into the car's interior.
One other question.... there were remnants of what resembled the claylike material we used to hang posters on the wall because mom wouldn't let us use pins. Is this what held the watershield to the door? If so, where can I get some? Or is there an alternative to this?
Big Dave-
Do you know what that sticky claylike material is that holds the watershield paper to the inner door? Where can I get that stuff or is there and alternative material (construction adhesive, two sided tape, etc.)?
I use a product from 3M called strip caulk ( dum-dum for us old timers). Its black in color and used for same purpose as the factory grey. Don't know if the grey is still available.
I use Mortite, which is available at any hardware store. It comes in peel-off strips about 1/4" wide and I believe this is what the factory used
