Rear seat and convertible tops

I'm wondering if I have the correct seat or if something is just plain missing (again) on my car.

The very top of both sides of my rear seat back have a small 'loop' of round stock metal and it interferes with the mechanism of the convertible top.
It looks factory but I see no purpose for this PITA thing.
When I put the top up or down, it hits it and then knocks my seat off.

I keep trying to find other b body convertible owners at car shows and I keep missing them.

My 63 has nothing like that on the rear seat. Their is a piece of body color trim that wraps over that area though.
