What power steering fluid to use?

I noticed my power steering fluid is really low with definite signs when driving. I don't see any leaks (nothing seen with the eyes at least). I just think it hasn't been filled in a really really long time, haven't filled it since I owned the car anyway (10+ years).

Now the dilemma is what power steering fluid to use. The manual says to use GM power steering fluid or if that's not available use ATF Type A (now obsolete). The cap says to use ATF Type A too. The problem is I have no idea what is in the system. I checked the color and it appears to be a light brown/amber which is a likely sign that it is some kind of power steering fluid. My transmission fluid is a pink/light red color.

For power steering fluids I see synthetics and non-synthetics. I guess I should avoid the synthetic types? Definitely avoiding leak sealing types too. Is there a specific recommendations/brands? I don't know what happens if I end up mixing fluids with what's in the system.

SAE 10 hydraulic fluid from Caterpillar, John Deere, Valvoline, who ever is cheapest! I buy it by the five gallon pail and use it in my John Deere tractor, truck and any vehicle that needs it.
