Ignition Switch Question

I can turn the ignition switch in my '62 without inserting a key. Do I need a new tumbler cylinder assembly or a new switch assembly?? Either the barrel of the switch is worn or the little pins on the tumbler are worn. Any way to know which?? Thanks!!!!

The tumbler is the part that requires a key to work.

The switch can operate without the tumbler even being installed (which is why car thieves used to screw a slide hammer into the ignition key and yank the tumbler out of the dash).

Can it be turned from the Lock Position without the Key?

Once the tumbler is removed the switch is turned with a bladed screw driver.

If the tumbler is still in the switch the whole assembly can be removed from the dash and the tumbler replaced following a number of you tube videos or posts on line with instructions.
