1965, Big Block 396 Convertibles

Is there any truth to a rumor that I heard that there were no Big Block 1965 convertibles? I owned a new 1965 Impala back in 1965 and I just don't remember ever seeing a 396 Vert.

Well, there weren't any 396 cars before mid-February, 1965 halfway through the 1965 model year.

Thank you,
Obviously the rumor is/was false.
Maybe there weren't any 425 horse, 396 convertibles.

Somewhat different subject: All the advertisments said "available in Caprice, Impala SS, and Impalas. Toward the end of the summer in 1965 I did see at least one white Biscayne with a 425 horse engine. Maybe it was a COPO or maybe it was a dealership swap.

Just 15x7 and 15x 8 rims with 225 fronts and 255 rears. Wish I had gone 15x8 on the front also.

Wow! I'm screwed, p245 70 R15 on the front, and p275s on the rear? 15" Rally wheels with 41/2 " backspacing?

Steven, why do you think you are screwed? I have P235 70's on 15X8 corvette ralleys with a 4" backspace on the front, and they just clear the front of the fender by a 1/4 " or so when turning. So if you have a 4 1/2 inch backspace wheel, your P245 70 may still just clear. The P245 would be a 1/2 inch larger diameter than the P235.
Granted, they will be close....may even rub a little on the frame on the rear of the tire while turning.....

Ahhh Steven,.....I reviewed your other post and see you have the disc brake conversion on the front.....yea, those 245's will probably hit since the conversion pushs the hubs out better than a 1/2 inch on each side.........

The reason I put 7" wheels on the front of my car was because of the 69 Impala disc brakes. When I bought the wheels and tires I thought they would rub. They don't. I will probably change the fronts to 8" also. I had 235x15's on 15x8 Corvette rallies that rubbed the front fender extension after a front end alignment. They moved the wheels forward about 1/2". The tires were to big so I bought 225's.

Well shoot. The conversion used the original spindles and was to retain the stock wheel position...
Of course, they aren't stock wheels.

The wheels and tires that came with it were 245 60's, 15s, 4 1/2 b.s...

They looked like bass boat trailer wheels... And I couldn't run discs on the original 14's...

I guess we'll see. I'll post up some pics. The whole car needs to settle lower, but I'll see what's up after everything is back on and in the car...

Waiting on a pic of the wheels on it without front fenders, and with...

The bass boat wheels on it originally...

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hijack.
