|68WASAGOODYEAR||Very nice. How did you lower the rear? Drop spindles as well? Do they have a provision for your e-brake?|

|6T5 396||Forgot to update...lol Engine fired right up and broke in nicely (2000 miles of top down cruising completed already), Drop spindle disc brake kit installed, tubular control arms as well....next step 4 speed auto trans. This thing cruises at 3000 rpm at 70 with the powerglide.|

|6T5 396||Verified 17x9.5 with 5.5 backspacing fit just fine with a 275-50-17 tire. Plenty of room. 5 inch backspacing would have been a little better due to coil spring pocket on the frame, but no issues, about 3/4 inch clearance. well over an inch from the fender lip.|

Thanks for the input.
I am on the look out for the correct air cleaner (they are not reproduced and expensive).
My car came with the wrong radiator, no shroud, and the original meat cleaver fan.
I know its a departure from original, but its hot down here and I wanna drive this thing! I am going to run an "auto city classic" aluminum direct fit with electric fan. I'll just hide it with satin black paint....lol
I also cannot find the correct fan shroud, no one reproduces it that I know of.

Awesome job!! It looks great! Suggestions:
1) Consider a clutch fan.
2) Consider a "closed PCV" system, as opposed to an "open PCV" system. Closed PCV will vent to the air cleaner. Open PCV is the chrome breather you have on the passenger valve cover. The advantage the closed PCV contain oil vapers within the air cleaner whereas the open PCV is vented through the breather and into the engine bay. The closed PCV theoretically will keep the engine bay cleaner.

So its been over a year.........We put all new brakes from the pedal to the shoes on it as well as all new fuel system from tank to manifold. We did get it running and drove it around the block a few times. Powerglide wouldn't shift (found vacuum line rotted off). Suspension bushings shot. I couldn't get rid of a tapping in the #8 cylinder so we pulled the 396 out and found (2) .030 over pistons in #6 and #8. The rest were standard bore????? So we took the block .40 over and had new 9.5:1 pistons put on the reconditioned rods. The crank was perfect needing a minor polish. heads were rebuild. While the engine was out we took the engine bay to bare metal and resprayed it satin black. I also ordered the wheels in 17x8 and 17x9.5. I have got the whole family helping me now....Hoping to assemble the motor and reinstall it soon...then on to the suspension.

Thanks! It has sat for 25 years at my dads (inside) Needs normal things to drive. Fuel tank, starter alt, fuel pump, all new brakes. It drove good in 1991 when we put it away for me to go into the Navy. I plan to just cruise it around.
I really like the stance of this one, probably go this route once I get all the bugs worked out.

|BA.||Doesn't look like it needs much at this point! What are you planning to do? Looks like it's ready to just drive and enjoy!|

My 1965 SS 396 finally arrived from OHIO.
Me and my dad partially restored the car in 1990 (Paint, quarters, trunk floor). She sat for 25 years in my dads car barn. I finally have the time and means to restore her fully. Looking forward to top down cruising!!
