FINALLY ... a set of headers. Doug's. After discussion with the certified tech, I think the first set (Hookers) full length probably would have worked, but needed to "attack" from below. IOW, put her on the lift. The Sanders block huggers were fine, except they interfered with the spark plug install/remove. IDK why, but they did. So ... here's full length Doug's for a 61 Impala. They fit. Have yet to run the engine though. December '19 is a bit optimistic. Now hoping for March '20. |

I ordered headers from Summit but the shop said they couldn't make 'em fit ... they had these. So I returned the headers which were "called-for" in the book ... but now looking at these headers, running the exhaust pipe is gonna be a real challenge because the collectors run aft. Who has installed headers on a SBC and our X-Frame? What'd you get/have a reference? THanks! |

Turns out the WilWood e-brake cable is long enough to include the distance of the intermediate cable so I didn’t need this after-all ... only the front cable. Ordered at Ecklers. Cancelled the Impala Bob order. Now ... the tie rod end assemblies from Impala Bob are outstanding. Have the frame on rollers! Wahoo! Next week hope to get the engine and tranny mounted. I bought a 168 tooth flex plate and hi torque starter from Summit. I wasn’t thrilled about getting a starter motor which is going to sound like a Toyota, (had one of these in a ‘97 Tahoe), but clearance for the headers sold me. I’ll just have to be happy with the greater contrast between the wimpy sounding starter motor ... and the 383’s cherry bombs! And look ... the body rolled-in behind the frame! (Hmm, may have to return to this post, can’t figure out how to drag/drop in an iOS platform! SMH) Well shoot, I guess I need training .. but here’s a link to my public FB album on this project. Perhaps that’ll work??? https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=b92a756bb8 |

Evidently I failed to note the Eckler's cable was designed only for their disc brakes. So ... went to Summit and got a WilWood cable. NOW ... I have an order of tie rod assemblies ("G PLUS") at Impala Bob ... it's been sitting in the till for a week with no progress on the order status. So I called today. "dude" finally answers after I hear him yelling at someone ... and then questions why I want these? (shop said they were good) ... Impala Bob's Lieutenant says he'll call me on Monday. ???!!!! ... This is the second of TWO items I've tried to order from Impala Bob and this one isn't looking good. I found "R Joints?" by ride tech. Looks like these would work with an assembly sleeve. They cost more ... but I've been impressed with Ride Tech's product and processing. Any other thoughts (on Impala Bob?) |

So the emergency brake cable kit for disc brakes ... doesn't really ... I've messaged Ecklers to inquire ... but it appears we'll have to cut the end off thread the clip, then put a set-screw type faster on the cable. Just one of the hazards of the resto-mod world, huh? |

It's been a little while ... Got 'er all primered up and ready for the fab shop. Shop Sup says this is the best metal he's ever seen. Window channels, door jambs, fenders ... excellent. Floor pans mostly excellent ... RF Pax floor pan has a few pin holes, probably from the leaking heater core. So ... 4 pieces of metal: firewall (standard for my shop, to make it clean during the reassembly) ... hole in the floorboard from when I converted to a manual tranny floor shift ... the RF pax floor pan ... and the package tray ... by my request so they don't have to fabricate around the 6x9 speaker holes I also drilled. Stoked! This should help with the calendar AND the bank account. Expect to spend no more than 2 weeks in fab, then mock-up! |
