1 ==> Chevy
2 ==> Pontiac
3 ==> Olds
4 ==> Buick
5 ==> Cadillac

This all changed when GM went to it's seventeen character VINs. Modern day VINs do not include the letters I, O or Q because of confusion with the numerals 1 and 0.

The 4 indicates the year was my mistake earlier Canadian Vins start with the year of the car I believe

Darth That is most certainly not a 1965 Canadian VIN when it starts with a 4, you are right. Something fishy there.

Can you post pictures of the tags?

Big Dave Welcome to the Team!

Canadian car use their own codes, so American code books do not list them. Good news is for a fee GM of Canada will reprint all of the documentation for your car's serial number (build sheet, shipping ticket, window sticker, dealer destination, and everything else found in the glove box except the owners manual). Only Canadian built cars do this.

Looking to buy 65 Impala having a hard time

Hey Guys new to the site I am looking to buy a 65 Impala but am trying to do my homework first. I was told this is a Canadian made Impala but the Vin doesn't start with a 5

VIN # G.M. Canada
41847075848

And the Cowl Tag is as follows

STYLE 1847 1-5-20
BODY NO. 175373
PAINT 2F
TRIM 842
B7OU63

Cant seem to find the paint details or option details any help would be appreciated. I want to make sure of what I am buying before I do. Also it says this is an * cylinder car I believe but how do you tell which type of 8 was originally put in.

Thanks in advance for your help. Steve
