Gregs396 I got a PM from you, and sent a reply. Hopefully it works as it should now. I will email him later today.
Thanks

Killroy1967 Greg, email the webmaster at Impalas.org. He collects documents from out of business dealerships, and may be able to help you with a build sheet.

Gregs396 Thanks for your reply. I was hoping that there were some archives similar to what the Pontiac and Corvette guys had available that shed some light on a selling dealership and factory options. I am familiar with the trim tag information from the Camaro side, but haven't done any research on the Impala yet.

Big Dave VIN doesn't contain any info other than make, year, and model type (2 dr ht for example) and assembly plant as well as the sequential number.

Options are recorded on the trim tag on the cowl (thought not all of them, only the few that the stenographer felt like typing). So if she was tired and in bad mood mood you might get two or three options; if she was happy and ready to work you might get every option on the car recorded from group one down to group five.

Dealer wasn't recorded anywhere except the shipping tag (part of the paper work in the glove box). All of this was trashed by the used car reseller to keep you from contacting the previous owner to find out why you sold the car when the original owner traded it in.

Killroy1967 Was the car sold new at Miller Chevrolet in Lone Pine California?

Anywhere to get dealer and option info from VIN

As previously posted, I just became the owner of a 1968 Impala. I know that the car was built and sold in California, but would like to get some more information if it's available. I recall that there were some documentation archives made available by GM that Pontiac and the Corvette guys were using. All of the cars that I have previously owned were 1970s, that I already had history on. Not sure how far back the information is available, or how to obtain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
