slone56 | I appreciate the responses. It belongs to a Grandpa on the wife's side. I think he is firm on the 9K. I just wonder how hard it will be to resell! If we knew the future though, we would all have put one away 40 some years ago. LOL! I am going to look at it tomorrow(7 hr. drive). I want to make sure, I absolutely, want this car before I move my money around! Thanks again guys! |

I agree , all of the above have worked for me when buying a car, you can also try and use the "four door not as desirable" aproach but don't fall for the "I've got someone else interested " it's usually B.S. if it's a "dealer" ...well those guys can be hard nuts to crack, good luck ! dave |

I think you are in the ball park but if it is listed at $9000 you can probably work them down to $7750 to $8250.. There are 3 approaches that I use to buy cars. 1.) Upfront approach: Ask the person what is the minimum they will take for the car. Then knock a bit more off. So if this person says $8500. Then offer them $8000. 2.) Low ball: Check over the car and find any imperfections. Pick the car apart. Go with cash if possible. $7500 and start there with negotiations. 3.) Budget Approach: Tell the person that you have $10000 to get the car transfered and certified and run it until then end of the year. If the car needs any work then you would like to have a bit of a cushion and money to repair it or maintain it. Start at $7900. |

that's kind of a hard one, if it's real nice (nothing to do) well....maybe http://www.bcautos.com/musclecars/impala62.html I found this coupe for the same money, not as original and probably not as nice but it's a coupe. but nice 4 door hardtops are rare, so it could appreciate more in the future, who knows ? but if you've fallen in love with it ? haggle some more with the guy. having a wad of cash in your pocket on the day can make a big difference ! dave |

62 Impala 4 dr hardtop worth??? I know, I know, I hate seeing these type of posts also, but could someone get me in the ballpark. Here it is: '62 Impala,70k miles, matching #'s rebuilt 283, powerglide, column shift, red w/ black cloth seats, NO rust anywhere, never wrecked, repainted once, 4 wheel manual drums, manual steering, perfect chrome, car show worthy. I think that about covers it. I am not new to cars, but I am new to NICE cars. Asking $9,000. Deal, or no deal? |
