BA. My parts are new and I used ATF in mine just because i had it around.

Big Dave I would use power steering fluid. Power steering fluid and ATF differ very little chemically. The red dye in ATF is used as an indicator of overheated fluid. It turns brown when it gets hot or old. Both are high quality mineral oil based hydraulic fluid designed to resist foaming.

Big Dave Which device are we thinking of changing the fluid in? Power Steering reservoir?

Motor oil in the engine? Transmission fluid for an automatic transmission, or a manual they are different!
