68 fastback rear seat compatibility

290 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  68impfastbck
I’ve been searching my local market place for some rear seats . I was under the assumption that any rear seat that came out of a 2 door impala would fit. Is this true? Or does it have to be fastback seats?
I have a set but I’m afraid the upper half is too far gone to use.
thanks!

Welcome! Show us pictures of your seat.
It would be nice if the Hollander Interchange Manual listed Rear Seats, but unfortunately, they don't cover them. I would say the '67 Fastback would fit, but there is one difference. The '67 has a Rear Speaker in it where the '68 doesn't. I would "say" that the Impala Custom Seat would fit, but that would need to be verified. That is most likely the only other possibility though and they are more rare to boot. Although, it is also possible that the '69-'70 Seat "may" fit, but again, that would need to be verified. The '65 to '66 is another possibility, but again they will have the Rear Speaker in it.

I actually have a '68 Fastback Seat, but I don't believe it is good enough to use.
I would not mind a speaker in the seat at all, as long as it fits. I could try to make the frame I have useable. It has some rusted broken pieces in some places. Maybe I will try to take some hog wire and weld it . Lol

I would feel pretty confident about using a '67 Seat. Seats are becoming so hard to find out there, that many guys are just repairing them. It will take some patience.
Well, I went ahead made the repairs I could the frame and springs with a welder and some old livestock fencing material I had. I’m going to find some foam to go on it. I don’t know if it’s going to work but I’m trying to fix what I have .

you know, I'm thinking , does anyone know an old school auto interior guy who's been doing this stuff for decades? they might be the ones to know about the differences between the seats

I saw somewhere that any gm fastback rear seat will fit. (Buick, olds)
I had a set of 69 impala front and rears come up for sale near me on marketplace and I was thinking of getting them…until I realized only 67 and 68’s were fastback and the 69 coupes will likely not fit.
So I’m going to try my best to fix up what I have.
