Still trying to figure this electrical out on the 1967 Impala Last owner destroyed the electrical under the dash. Instrument lights do not come on when lights are turned on but do come on when key is turned to ignition or car is running. I have pulled the dash panel out and cant find the problem. I also have that wonderful colorful wiring diagram. Help Me. New light switch installed.

What does the fuse block look like? Anything plugged into the ignition-hot or battery-hot terminals? If so, are you sure what they are for? If not, looks like PO spliced into the ignition hot line coming from the ignition switch for the instrument panel circuit instead of the hot line coming from the headlight switch. Should be pretty straightforward to trace them, but maybe not if things are a real mess. Maybe post a pic of what you've found so far as well as one of the fuse block (if not stock)?

Fuse block looks normal. Will check ignition switch.

I agree with Magster. Sounds like he's tapped the dash light power into something else but there are plenty of ways/places to do that so I feel like the best way would be to follow the power line the dash plugin and see where the other end of that goes. I would presume it's red but wouldn't bet my life on it. :)

Unable to figure out what this MEAT HED did with this wiring. So after 8 hrs I ran a wire off the light switch to the gray wire that was hot with ignition on. I may not get the gen and oil light by who cares. I'm running all new auto meter gauges. Thanks for all the help guy's. God Bless

It is actually not that hard to install new wiring. It’s not cheap but you won’t have to worry about shorts or fires.
