Doing research into engines for a conversion...I'm getting a 67 sedan and I need the engine bay dimensions to determine what engine(s) will fit under the hood...I need the height from the motor mounts up, and the height from the bottom of the front subframe to the hood line, if anybody just happens to know.

Are you kidding??? There are no such dimensions anywhere. Besides those cars came with: 6's, small blocks and big blocks, so any engine you want to put in will fit.

You can also add LS-x engines to the list. There are kits to install then in 1965-70 Impalas. The only engine that won't fit is a diesel out of a semi, but mostly because of he weight not he lack of room.

I'm considering a Cummins 4BT, which IS a diesel...it's 32 inches high from the bottom of the oil pan to the top. The Mercedes OM617 is shorter, but not as much torque...not exactly from a semi, but it's still a pretty tall motor. Still trying to research to avoid any surprises later, after I buy stuff

You need more dimensions than just the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the motor. Your motor will require custom mounts so you need as many measurements as possible of the drop in the oil pan, etc, so you know where you can mount the motor in the car.

I would say you're best off to get a ton of measurements off the motor and wait till you have the car to see if it will fit.

I've alway liked the older impalas...classier than anything available today and still looks bada$$ being 45 years old. I put a lot of highway miles on my car and I just don't want to be peeing the money away, putting money into a new car that isn't going to last (and have the miles rack up quickly). The 4BT is bullet-proof, it can go 500k+miles between rebuilds, it's cheap to rebuild (sleeved cylinders, nitride coated internals so no other machining), and there are guys using them to push 3/4 ton suburbans getting 30+ mpg...I think one of my dream cars (67 impala) with a diesel would be an ideal daily driver, so I'm gonna try.

Looked at a few so far that had either been restored or were survivors (all matching numbers) but I don't want to do a conversion like this on a matching numbers car...it's sacralege in my opinion so don't worry, I'll be fixing one up

I had the motor out of this one a few months back. I think you may need to do some work on the trans tunnel and floor pans along with a tall cowl hood.

I know I'll have to do some work on the trans hump: I can handle that. I'm still not sure what transmission I'm gonna end up using: Probably a 4L80 if i go auto or a nv4500 if I end up going manual (still haven't researched very many manuals yet though)... I would prefer not to have to do a cowl hood, I really like the clean factory lines. I'm planning on doing a RideTech suspension package BUT not sure how much I can modify the oil pan of the 4BT and still hold a reasonable amount of oil
