Are we replacing a broken carrier bearing with a new one on a car we drove into the garage for that purpose. Or are we piecing back together a pile of parts you bought called a restoration project that some one else took apart two decades ago, that may or may not have the original transmission installed?

its a 62 that rubber is wiped out, driving car not parts one to gather, the issue is from rear pinion yoke to bearing seem 3/8 short if i put bolts in bearing,i guss i will have to make the hole slots 3/8 longer, but there would still be no slip to it when it goes threw sys travel

ok thanks, thats the only way to go,as the stock has no slip joint except for the rubber in the support bearing, and i put a HD URAHTRHANE SUP bearing and theres not much give in that, talk about a dumb *** designe, what were they thinking

... what were they thinking
They (GM design engineers) were thinking about a soft, quiet, ride that was so smooth and quiet that you would only know you are moving by seeing the scenery pass by the window as if you where sitting on your couch at home and watching a movie being projected.

After WWII customers wanted modern jet orient styling and smooth bump free rides. The X-frame is designed to twist to conform to the road and the body is mounted on sponge rubber to absorb every vibration. The 1964 car uses the 1958 frame designed in 1956.
