Does anyone know the value of the fuel gauge resistor located behind the fuel gauge? Specifically, for a 1968 SS427 dash. (Not my car but a friend in Australia who is rebuilding after an engine fire.) Better yet, if you know where he can get a new part, please let me know. Much appreciated.

Take a close up picture of it and the colored rings will allow us to tell tell you the value. As far as that goes, print out the pictured, and you can find a comparable value resister at Radio Shack with the clerk's help.

Prior to 1965 GM used a 30 OHM circuit; after 1964 they used a 90 Ohm circuit; but I thought that resistance value was in the rheostat; not on the back of the gauge. I assumed that was placed there to dampen the oscillations sent from gas sloshing in the tank as you accelerated or braked or turned a corner.
